Forty days and forty nights takes on a purposeful meaning when we’re talking about Cuaresma, the season preceding the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. For many of the Christian faith—Catholics, Protestants, Baptists and others—this time is traditionally spent reflecting, praying and refraining from excesses including eating meat, drinking mojitos and having hot sex (though we’re not judging) we may normally overload on. The biggest, most outward expression of the observance is the strict (red) meatless Fridays observed by Latinos all over.
